How I Met Your Adventure: Lost in Travels13 November 2013
How I Met Your Adventure is a series of posts featuring you, my readers! Whether it's that time you almost got arrested in Rome or a heartwarming story about finding love in Tokyo, I want to hear your unique travel story.
I'm Chelsea and I blog over at Lost in Travels. After my man and I got hitched over two years ago, we started getting cold sweats every time we even thought about ‘settling down’ in our hometown. We wanted to do something out of the ordinary, something adventurous. We wanted to spend our lives traveling the globe. So what did we do? Sold all of our belongings that wouldn’t fit in two 50-pound bags and took the first flight to South Korea to teach English to
snot nosed adorable little kids and never looked back!
When did you start traveling and what motivated you to go?
I first started traveling when I was in the 8th grade and did a short student exchange in Japan. I have always been interested in different countries and cultures and my wanderlust has only grown from there!
Have there been any challenges so far in your trip?
Living in a different country, language and culture is always challenging in one way or another! Thankfully the people her have been very kind and understanding but it takes a lot of patience and humility at times.
Your photography is amazing! Any tips for travel photography?
Thank you so much! My husband actually handles all of the photography on the blog and it's a hobby that he started shortly after moving abroad. I'd say the best thing he has learned is of course lots of practice but also lighting. Often times, we will arrive to a location earlier than most people in the morning in order to get the best light and the least amount of people.
What's your best advice when it comes to traveling with a significant other?
Patience! People were simply not meant to spend 24 hours a day with each other so patience and also communication is key. We have certain roles when traveling; for example he books all tickets and hotels while I budget and search for activities for us to do. This has helped ease frustration ad avoid unnecessary arguments while traveling. You can read more about how to travel with another person on my blog.
What's been your biggest adventure so far?
Everyday is a new adventure, a new place to discover, a new challenge and a new story to be told! My favorite adventure so far has been snorkeling with whale sharks in the Philippines! It was such an incredible adventure to get to see such peaceful, massive animals up close!
