Confessions of a Blogger17 January 2014
I'm horribly late with following up with this, but last month I was tagged by Kirsten of Travel Togruta to do the Confessions of a Blogger post. Basically, I answer the first nine questions then create a tenth for the people a tag to answer. So, let's do this!
1// When did you first start blogging and why?
The first incarnation of Driftwood & Daydreams was actually a fashion blog I created back in 2010 because I loved style and wanted to share mine. It got really popular really quick. Quicker than I was ready for at the time. The pressure to make good content overwhelmed me so I deleted it after about 8 months.
Later, Driftwood & Daydreams was reborn as a travel blog in 2012. I had just gotten back from China and realized that I wanted to make a career out of travel. Creating a blog seemed like a good way to break into the scene and this time I was a bit more prepared for what it would feel like to be in the public eye.
2// When did you become serious about your blog?
As soon as I created Driftwood & Daydreams (the current, travel version) I knew I wanted to treat it like a business. I saw the potential success that my fashion blog had had and I wanted to try that again.
3// What was your first blog post?
My first post was rather pathetic. No words and the photography was weak. I've learned so much about travel blogging since then!
4// What has been your biggest challenge blogging?
I think the biggest challenge is making time for blogging. When I come home from a long day of work it can really feel like a chore to write. I just remind myself that all I time I put into this is an investment. My dream is for Driftwood & Daydreams to one day be my full time job.
|Travel is better with (blogging) friends!|
5// What is the most rewarding thing about blogging?
Definitely the community! Everyone is so nice and supportive. It's my dream to go to a travel blog conference so that I can meet these people in person!
6// What is the most discouraging thing about blogging?
They say comparison is the thief of joy and that's extremely true when it comes to blogging. Sometimes I look at other travel blogs that are the same age as mine and it feels a bit discouraging that they've already developed more of a following than I have. But I just remind myself that numbers don't necessarily mean another blog is better!
7// What is your lasting inspiration or motivation?
My inspiration comes from my love of travel! Whether it be food, music, art, dance, or language- I want to experience of facet of life in every corner of the world!
8// What do your friends think of your blogging adventure?
It still shocks me, sometimes, that my friends actually read my blog. We'll be chatting and they'll say something like "Oh I saw blah blah blah on your blog..." and it's like "Wow, you actually took the time to read that?"
My boyfriend is also super supportive. He's a business major so he's always advising me on how to run my blog like a business since I'm more of a creative mind.
9// (Kirsten's question) What doors has blogging opened for you?
It's definitely got me looking at careers that I had never considered before. Being a language major, I assumed I would go into translating or teaching. Now I see that there's so much more I can do through my blog.
10// What do you define as a successful blog?
So that's my question for you lovely bloggers:
Bram of Travel.Experience.Live
Mark and Mallory of Sweet Smores
Ashley of Girl of the Road
Mariella of Bridgekeeping Traveller
